SmartEMIS

The SmartEMIS (Smart Emergency Management Information Systems) project focuses on how mobile devices such as smart phones combined with different forms of social media can be applied for improving information sharing and collaboration in emergency preparedness and management

The SmartEMIS project focuses on how mobile devices such as smart phones combined with different forms of social media can be applied for improving information sharing and collaboration in emergency preparedness and management.

The project aims to develop solutions and procedures supporting emergency managers in analyzing social media information, and integrate this as part of their coordination and decision support. Further, the use of open GIS (Geographical Information Systems) applications for supporting shared situational awareness will be explored. The project will also analyze what role can be played by ‘digital volunteers’ in supporting these activities.

SmartEMIS is conducted in collaboration with emergency coordinators and responders in the Agder region, and will involve field trials of developed solutions and procedures.
